Director Statement
With this film I hope to share a visual commentary on innocent young love with my audience. During those high school years, my friends and I would love to fantasize about the people we liked. We would hold on to the image of them which had captured our hearts. Likewise, the boy blindly runs after the sound of a bell, fueled by his feelings. I want to look at this experience as a beautiful part of our youth, and show how naively falling in love can bring us happiness.
I was born and raised in Hong Kong, a small city located in Southeast Asia which is known for its fast-paced way of life. People there are very efficient and practical, and often choose to do what they’re good at rather than chase their passions. I love my city and the kind of person it made me become, but I also want to use this film as an opportunity to encourage Hong Kongers to not be afraid to dream. There is a popular saying in Hong Kong called “FF”, which stands for “final fantasy”, and we use it to describe someone’s exaggerated wishful thinking or daydreams. “Cow” is our message to the audience: “it’s okay to FF”!
